Artist Profile: Tyler Rowe
By Alex LaVallee
Tyler Rowe is the epitome of what it means to be an independent artist. The Rowan University sophomore is a photographer/urban explorer that is continuously impressing his peers and other New Jersey artists.
Rowe is currently studying environmental science on the weekdays, and going out to explore and shoot every weekend. With his interesting subject matter, natural ability to compose a picture, and passion for exploration, Rowe is making a statement in the urban explorer community.
“Photography was always relatively present in my life.” Rowe explained how he got started shooting photos. “When I was younger I would always beg my parents to buy me disposable point and shoot cameras. My actual pointed photography efforts started when I got my first iPhone.”
Rowe has come a long way from iPhone quality and disposable film, shooting beautiful digital portraits, without an end in sight. Rowe is consistently going out to find new places to shoot, and continuously posting photos on his website and Instagram.
Originally from Toms River, New Jersey, Rowe currently is a part time resident of Glassboro, New Jersey. His photography content ranges from locations that can be found from Asbury Park, to Philadelphia — and everywhere in between.
“The interesting thing about New Jersey is how amazingly diverse it is. In my hometown I have incredibly beautiful Jersey shore ten minutes to the east, and extensive forests of the Pine Barrens ten minutes to the west. Photogenic landscapes aside, New Jersey is one of the oldest states and the most populated. This allows for a rich history. As an urban explorer, being able to capture such history is so exciting. All in all, New Jersey’s diversity and its small, accessible size forces me to look deeper and explore as much of the state as I can.”
Tyler Rowe has a lot of love for his home state, and is constantly growing as an independent artist. To see more photos, visit Tyler’s website here, or visit his Instagram @tylerowe.
